Welcome to InTechThrace - DUTH
InTechThrace - "Integrated Technologies in biomedical research: multilevel biomarker analysis in Thrace" aims at the interconnection and expansion of existing of the School of Health Sciences at the Democritus University of Thrace, by creating a functional platform where comprehensive biomedical studies can be conducted.
The InTechThrace project, with MIS Code 5047285 has been included in the Action "Research Infrastructures and Projects of Research and Technological Organizations" of the Operational Program Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation (EPAnEK). It is co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and national resources.
The InTechTrace project operates in two levels:
- the technological development and research innovation, by offering open access to the platform for all researchers and SMEs in the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace and by networking the platform with other National Infrastructures or significant regional Infrastructures.
- pilot studies for biomarker development
The platform consists of the following individual infrastructures:
- Biomedical Data Science & Bioinformatics Unit (DUTH)
- Proteomic Analysis Unit
- Molecular and Cellular Function Unit
- Bioimaging DUTH Unit - Biomedical Imaging
- Flow Cytometry and Cell Sorting Unit
- Animal Models Unit
Pilot studies tested on the platform:
- ExoMarkers: Study of extracellular biomarkers in autoimmune diseases
- ATHERONET: Neutrophil/platelet interaction studies to identify and validate new biomarkers of inflammation
- HMA-effect: Study of molecular prognostic and predictive biomarkers, in patients with MDS and AML
- OncoTarget: Study of response biomarkers to stem cell therapy from cancer patients
- BIOMar: Development, study and evaluation of biomarkers in osteoarthritis
The Scientific Coordinator of the project is Professor Margy Koffa from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at the Democritus University of Thrace. The project involves the participation of 19 Regular Staff members of DUTH from both the MBG and Medical Department, as well as 41 Associate Staff members. The project has a duration of 33 months (16/12/2020 - 19/09/2023) with a total budget of €2,995,000.00.
